Work site environment • Beef cattle ranching and farming, including feedlots • Outdoors • Odours • Wet/damp • Livestock • All weather conditions • Dirty Work setting • Rural area • Staff accommodation available Responsibilities Tasks • Clear and collect brush and debris from fields, pens and other work areas • Clear fields of wood and stones • Develop and guide the behaviour of farm animals • Develop specific plans to prioritize • Diagnose livestock health issues • Disinfect pens, barns or poultry houses • Handling animals • Marking livestock as proof of ownership • Monitor the calving process • Monitoring animal health • Organize tasks to accomplish the work • Perform livestock feeding • Perform pig littering activities such as clipping needle teeth, docking tails, administering iron and other medication(s), identification of piglets, and castration • Plant, cultivate and irrigate crops • Prepare a clean, dry area for cows that are calving • Supervise milking operations to ensure work is done correctly • Weaning • Weeding • Feed and tend animals • Assist in the development and implementation of farm safety and bio-security procedures • Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment • Carry out a pasture or pen breeding programs • Co-ordinate and supervise the work of general farm workers and harvesting labourers • Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed • Formulate feeding program • Maintain quality control and production records • Milk cows • Supervise and oversee breeding and other livestock-related programs • Train horses • Clean stables, barns, barnyards and pens • Maintain work records and logs • Detect disease and health problems in crops, livestock and poultry • Perform general farm duties • Examine product for quality and its readiness for the market • Write daily basic progress reports • Set and monitor water lines, air flow and temperature in barns, pens and chicken coops Additional information Work conditions and physical capabilities • Ability to work independently • Physically demanding • Repetitive tasks • Combination of sitting, standing, walking • Standing for extended periods • Walking • Bending, crouching, kneeling Who can apply for this job?
