Work site environment: - Dangerous - Odours - Noisy - Outdoors - All weather conditions Work setting: - Golf course - Equipment operation Responsibilities Tasks: - Interpret blueprints or other instructions to plan methods or sequences of operation - Read blueprints or other instructions to determine work requirements - Trim trees to achieve the desired pruning objective such as crown cleaning, thinning, raising, reduction, restoration, espalier pruning, vista pruning - Manage landscaping projects - Prepare conceptual designs - Prepare proposals - Estimate costs - Write specifications - Survey and assess designated sites - Prepare contracts and tenders - Water and tend to plants, lawns and/or gardens - Apply fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, pesticides and other lawn care products - Apply various treatments such as pruning, spraying, repairing damaged areas and injecting with treatment solutions - Assess the health of lawns - Direct crews who maintain the health and appearance of golf courses and their surrounding landscapes - Examine trees and shrubs to diagnose problems and disease - Plan and co-ordinate the growth and use of plants for landscaping, ornamental uses and other purposes - Plant and maintain private and public lawns and gardens - Plant and move trees - Tree removal - Exercise to maintain physical ability and physical fitness The candidate must possess a Chemical Application Certificate or Licence. Experience and specialization Computer and technology knowledge: - MS Excel - MS Outlook - MS Word The position involves landscaping experience in parks and recreation sites, restoration and preservation projects, and sports fields, along with experience operating equipment such as power mowers. Experience in snow removal is also required. The candidate should have civil engineering–related experience in drainage and irrigation systems, and construction specialization in automated irrigation systems, ornamental ponds, fountains, waterfalls, irrigation, and drainage. The role also requires specialized environmental skills and knowledge, as well as expertise in landscape construction and plant knowledge and identification. The candidate must be bondable and willing to undergo a criminal record check. They must have their own vehicle and a valid driver’s licence for transportation. The job requires the ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and to perform repetitive and physically demanding tasks, including handling heavy loads. The position requires manual dexterity and the ability to distinguish between colours, and involves a combination of sitting, standing, and walking, with standing for extended periods, as well as bending, crouching, and kneeling. The candidate must provide their own safety equipment, including steel-toed safety boots, hard hat, safety glasses or goggles, gloves, ear plugs, mask, safety vest, and rain gear.
